Every year, space industry giants meet to discuss and showcase the latest space-related technologies, innovations, systems, sub-systems, components, manufacturing processes, and commercial applications at the Space Tech Expo. This year’s show runs May 21st and 22nd in Pasadena California, and Xometry will be there. Here’s our mini-guide to Space Tech Expo 2019, where you can find our exhibit booth, and some of the incredible conference sessions and workshops you won’t want to miss!

The Show Floor

The first place you’ll find Xometry at Space Tech Expo 2019 is our booth, #1022. At our booth, you can meet the Xometry team, get demos of our Instant Quoting Engine, pick up some great free swag, and have in-depth manufacturing conversations. We love meeting new people and can’t wait for you to stop by.

The second place you’ll find Xometry is in the Technical Sessions Theater on the show flow. These free sessions run throughout both show days and include presentations around the four focus areas of the show: aerospace testing, industry 4.0, components and assemblies, and space system development.

Xometry’s own Mark Gallagher, Senior Manager of Operations, will be presenting at the theater on May 22nd at noon on “The Hard Things About Modern Aerospace Hardware Manufacturing.” Mark will talk through lessons learned in modern aerospace manufacturing, including design for manufacturing best practices, introducing new manufacturing technologies into supply chains, and carefully navigating one of the most overlooked aspects of hardware development - forming mutually beneficial and long-term supplier relationships. This is one session you won’t want to miss.

Space Tech Conferences

Space Tech Expo 2019 wouldn’t be complete without an abundance of conferences starring key individuals and companies in the space industry. With over 10 different sessions to attend, there will be plenty to learn and discover. One conference of note is the keynote on Tuesday, May 21 at 9:10 AM: A Conversation with Jim Bridenstine, Administrator at NASA, on facilitating commercial space partnerships to accelerate innovation and sustain a human presence on and around the moon.

Soon after, at 10:00 AM, is another can’t miss conference on “Pushing the Pedal to the Metal: Accelerating Innovative Technology Development Through Creative Partnerships and Business Models.” Here, speakers from Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Orbital Sidekick, Bessemer Venture Partners, and LightSpeed Innovations will discuss how the commercial space industry, as well as civil and military organizations, can move forward with new business models to create a culture of technology innovation to reduce lead times and cost.

Another break out session to check out is “Taking Additive Manufacturing to the Next Level: Ensuring Quality Control for Future Spaceflight” at 2:45 PM on Wednesday, May 22. During this session, you’ll hear from additive manufacturing industry leaders at Siemens, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Additive Rocket Corporation, Launcher, and ASTM International on the current state of additive manufacturing applications in the aerospace industry. They will then discuss moving away from using additive manufacturing methods for prototyping applications to actual production components and tools for spacecraft development and even in-orbit manufacturing. Talk about science fiction. Maybe next year there will be a panel on replicators and food synthesizers like those found in Star Trek.

Visiting Space Tech Expo and Beyond

If you’re interested in attending Space Tech Expo 2019 from May 21st to the 22nd, you’re in luck. Registration to visit the show floor, take part in the Tech Sessions, and check out product demos and showcases is still open and free. Attending the conference sessions and workshops require a pass, but one that we think is well worth paying for if you're looking to keep yourself and your business on the cutting edge of space technology and developments. Learn more and register for Space Tech Expo 2019 here.

If Space Tech isn’t your thing, or you won’t be able to make it all the way out to California to attend, you will also find Xometry at Rapid 3D from May 21st through the 23rd in Detroit, MI. Rapid is America’s most influential additive manufacturing event with over 400 exhibiting companies, over 100 conferences and workshop sessions, and over 6,000 of your 3D printing industry peers. This is where the entire additive manufacturing community comes together to share knowledge, learn what’s new, witness some of the biggest product announcements of the year firsthand, discover the latest applications, and hear from the industry’s most respected experts on where additive manufacturing is headed next.

You’ll find Xometry at Rapid 3D in booth #2257. We can’t wait to see you there. Exhibit only passes are $75 until May 17th, after which the price will increase. Learn more and register for Rapid 3D here.
