Xometry is taking more steps in the fight against climate change. To work towards a business model of complete carbon neutrality, we’ve launched a feature in the Xometry Instant Quoting Engine℠ where customers can see the amount of carbon emissions their order will produce and choose how much to offset.
Currently, Xometry uses its profits to offset carbon emissions from shipping raw materials to suppliers and custom parts to customers. Our new Carbon Emissions Offsetting Tool in the Xometry Instant Quoting Engine℠ comprehensively calculates each order’s estimated carbon footprint from manufacturing and materials extraction. The tool then calculates the estimated cost to the customer to offset the emissions. Customers have the option to offset 0%, 50%, or 100% of their emissions by buying carbon credits (offsetting one metric ton costs about $42) that we pass along to trusted environmental impact organizations that help plant trees and create renewable solar and wind energy. These organizations include The National Forest Foundation and Dot Neutral.
To see how you can offset your order’s carbon emissions, you can start by quoting your parts in the Xometry Instant Quoting Engine℠. You can also see a demonstration of our carbon emissions tool in the video below.
This is not Xometry’s first environmental initiative and will not be our last. As mentioned above, Xometry has been offsetting carbon emissions from shipping since early 2020. Xometry has worked with Dot Neutral to offset shipping emissions by sponsoring a wind farm in Texas. We’ve offset 1.4 million pounds of carbon since the program's launch.
With the Carbon Emission Offsetting Tool in the Xometry Instant Quoting Engine℠, we’ll continue to manufacture consciously. So far, we’re on track to offset about 300 metric tons of carbon emissions in the next year.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done so far, but we know there’s still a long way to go. Xometry will continue making our manufacturing sustainable in the battle against climate change long into the future.
